What Can 2.9 Million Dollars Do?

Ya know.. for being in a decidedly Red State, Fort Worth is a decidedly progressive city. We have protections for gays and lesbians in housing and employment.. We have light rail to and from our neighboring suburb of Dallas.. We have what is ranked the #1 Dog Park (Fort Woof) in the United States.. We have a dynamic downtown that isn't deserted at night and where you don't have to have a police escort to walk around in...

We have many more beautiful aspects of our fair city.. but the best thing.. that I have heard this month.. is that the City Council just passed it's budget. Yes.. times are tight... duplicate positions were eliminated.. belts were tightened. The greatest beneficiary (IMHO) for all this.. is the homeless population. The Council added 2.9 million dollars for various programs in their 10 year plan for a bed for every head.

Fort Worth I will admit is a great place to be homeless. I had no idea when I was homeless that there were places one could get food and shelter. We have 3 major shelters here.. One.. ehh.. I wouldn't so much recommend.. and it amazes me.. that so many people are connected with these 3. It is very sad that there are 3.. in the way that there is a need for them.

Hopefully.. with 2.9 million dollars.. we can diminish that number of people on Lancaster by a large percentage...

Thank You Mayor Moncrief.. and Honorable City Council members...

In these economic times that is something to be proud of, and amazed at.

I love the name Fort Woof. :)

It's funny how red and blue (States) are exactly opposite to how we have them in the Netherlands. Over here the socialist parties are red, and the right-wing is blue. We've had a "purple government" with a balance of the two sides a bunch of years back. :)

Nowadays the sides can be easily scrutinized as the side which is pro-welfare and the side which is anti-welfare. You can guess where the reds are at.
